Exhibition | Sorelle Marsini, fotografiste lucchesi
The LYNX Research Unit of the IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca presents an exhibition on the Marsini Sisters, photographers and entrepreneurs active in the second half of the nineteenth century in Lucca, Livorno and Florence.
A series of guided tours accompanies visitors to discover original photographs and documents that testify how Emilia and Giuseppina Marsini contributed to writing the future of the social and professional condition of women in nineteenth-century Tuscany, managing a type of business long described as being exclusively a male prerogative.
Set up on the occasion of the Notte degli Archivi of Archivissima 2025, the exhibition offers food for thought on the contribution of women in photography, brought to light thanks to careful research among the documents kept in the Lucchese Photographic Archive "Arnaldo Fazzi" and in the Historical Archive of the Municipality of Lucca.
Curated by Linda Bertelli, Agnese Ghezzi and Alessandro Masetti, the initiative is promoted within the framework of “Fotografiste – Women in Photography from Italian Archives (1839–1939)”, the PRIN 2022 PNRR project funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU.
